Seoul, 2018 – The Cafés

There’s definitely no shortage of good coffee in Seoul, which is why I love this city so much. Here are some of my favorites this year.

Daelim Changgo Gallery CO:LUMN

Daelim Changgo Gallery CO:LUMN is a warehouse-turned-gallery-and-cafe in Seongsu, an up-and-coming neighborhood in Seoul with an emerging art scene. Gallery CO:LUMN has changing exhibitions throughout the year, and combines the rustic interior of the warehouse well with the art pieces strategically placed throughout the huge gallery space.

BAESAN at Daelim Changgo

Baesan, similar to Gallery CO:LUMN, is also a gallery and café, and the two places are right next to each other. Baesan, in comparison, is a bit more crazy with pops of color and pop-art displays, whereas Gallery CO:LUMN feels a bit more muted and grown-up with its rustic interior and more ‘serious’ art. Oh, and they had pretty good green tea lamingtons.

Onion Café

Onion Café is one of the hottest cafés in Seoul right now. Even though I went there around 3PM on a weekday, the place was chock full of people and I could see why. Also located in the oh-so-hip Seongsu neighborhood, Onion Café has a selection of the yummiest- and prettiest-looking pastries like no other cafés in Seoul. The rustic interior with exposed bricks and concrete walls adds a certain kind of charm to this place.

Invited

Invited was an unexpected gem Daniel picked out from a magazine we were reading at Starbucks. Located in Yongsan, this cafe has an industrial-chic interior, quirky accessories, good coffee and an amazing rooftop view.

Fritz Coffee Company

Fritz Coffee Company, with several locations in Seoul, is well known for its nostalgic retro branding. They serve some of the best coffees in Seoul and their pastries are quite good as well.

Anthracite and Manufact

Anthracite, located on the first floor of the D&D Department Seoul building in Hannamdong, is a great place to get coffee. Manufact, in the posh Sinsadong neighborhood, is on the top floor of Queenmama Market, which is also a must-visit.
